Understanding the Impact of the Supreme Court’s Bruen Decision
On June 23, 2022, in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc. v. Bruen, the U.S. Supreme Court invalidated New York’s long-standing requirement that applicants for a public concealed-carry license demonstrate “proper cause.” The Court concluded that this discretionary standard was inconsistent with constitutional protections, prompting changes to how carry licenses are evaluated in New York.
