Getting Started

How long does the NYC concealed carry process really take?

It can take a few months to over a year. This depends on NYPD review time and application volume. Our class is only one step in the process.

Can I take the class before I apply?

Yes. Many people take the class first so they understand the process and feel prepared.

Does taking this course guarantee I will be approved?

No. We provide training only.
The NYPD Licensing Division makes all approval decisions.

What happens after I finish the course?


After you finish, you will receive:
• A training certificate
• Guidance on the next steps

You will then apply through the NYPD Licensing Portal.

Do you submit my application to the NYPD?

No. You must submit your own application.
We explain the process so you know what to do.

What if I take the class and decide not to apply?

That is your choice. Taking the class does not require you to apply.

Eligibility

Who can apply for a NYC firearm license?

You may apply if you:

  • Are 21 years old or older
  • Are a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
  • Meet background and eligibility requirements
  • Are legally allowed to possess a firearm
Can non-New York residents apply?

Yes. Non-residents may apply, subject to NYPD eligibility review and requirements.

Can I apply if I live outside NYC?

Possibly. Approval depends on the NYPD and license type.

Can I apply if I have a past arrest?

Maybe. An arrest does not automatically disqualify you.
The NYPD reviews all background information.

What can disqualify someone?

Examples include:
• Serious criminal convictions
• Domestic violence convictions
• Active orders of protection
• Certain mental health rulings
• Federal or state firearm bans

The licensing authority makes the final decision.

Can teachers, nurses, or city employees apply?

Yes. Your job alone does not disqualify you.

Course Experience

Do I need any experience?

No. This course is made for beginners and first-time applicants.

Do I need to own a firearm before class?

No. We provide firearms and safety equipment for the required training.

Is the course stressful or intimidating?

No. The environment is calm, professional, and supportive.
There is no pressure or competition.

What if I’m not a “gun person”?

That is okay. Many of our students are new and have no prior experience.

Is this course suitable for women?

Yes. Many women attend our classes. Private women’s training is also available.

Is this an advanced shooting class?

No. This course focuses on:
• Safety
• Legal rules
• Responsible firearm handling

Advanced shooting is taught in separate courses.

Training Requirments

Is live-fire training required?


Yes. New York State requires live-fire training for certification.

What happens if I struggle during live fire?

Training is supervised and instructional. If you need more practice, instructors will guide you.

What caliber firearms are used?

Firearms used meet New York State training requirements and are selected for safety.

Is ammunition included?

Range fees and ammunition details are listed in the course information.

Legal & Safety Questions

Will you teach me where I can and cannot carry?

Yes. We cover New York State and NYC carry rules and restricted locations.

Will you teach use-of-force laws?

Yes. Legal responsibilities are a major part of the course.

Will I be taught de-escalation and avoidance?

Yes. We strongly focus on awareness and avoiding conflict.

No. We provide educational information only.

What if laws change after I take the course?

Gun laws change often.
Students are responsible for staying up to date.

How long is the course?
  • 16 hours classroom instruction
  • 2 hours live-fire training

Are classes held on weekends?

How many students are in each class?

Class sizes are limited for safety and quality.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes.

Can I reschedule?

Rescheduling follows the Refund & Cancellation Policy.

Payments & Policies

Do I have to pay in full?

A $100 deposit is required to reserve the seat. Final payment is due first day of class.

Are deposits refundable?

See the Refund & Cancellation Policy for details.

What if I am not approved by the NYPD?

Approval is outside our control.
Refunds are not based on licensing results.

What if I do not show up?

No-shows forfeit payment per policy.

Privacy & Comfort

Will my information be shared?

No. We do not sell or share personal information except as required for processing.

Will photos or videos be taken?

Photography and recording are restricted for safety and privacy.

Is this course political?

No. This is a non-political educational program focused on law and safety.
