Who Should NOT Apply
Some people may not be allowed to get a firearm license in New York City.
You should not apply if you:
- Have serious criminal convictions
- Have domestic violence charges or convictions
- Have an active order of protection against you
- Have been committed to a mental health facility by a court
- Are addicted to drugs or alcohol
- Have been dishonorable discharged from the United States military
- You are not a US Citizen, Permanent resident may apply
- Are not allowed to own a firearm under federal or state law

Who Can Apply
Many people can apply for a New York City firearm license.
You may apply if you:
- Are 21 years old or older
- Live in New York City or outside New York State
- Are a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
- Have no serious criminal convictions
- Can pass a background check
